 Reduce crime and provide essential emergency services

The first responsibility of government is to provide its citizens with a safe, crime free environment in which to live, work and play.   The Person County Sheriff Department provides this service to our county citizens.  They need the full support and help of all law abiding citizens.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Person County Rescue Squad provide emergency services to our county.  They are there when you need them.  They save lives!

The Volunteer Fire Departments of Person County provide the fire and safety protection to our county citizens.  These unpaid volunteers provide much needed services to all citizens in the county.  They work with the City of Roxboro Fire Department to keep the county and the city protected from fire.

I would like to see our crime and essential emergency services departments provide more awareness forums for the citizens of Person County.  They do a lot of these in the schools now but I believe these programs will bring all our citizens up-to-date on some issues that are on all our minds today.  Some of the forums could be:

• Gang Awareness --This would teach the public what to look for, identify signs of gang existence and how to handle what they see.
• Drug Awareness --This would help adults, parents and young people what to look for, identify signs and how to handle what they see.
• Electronic Awareness--Computers provide a wealth of information and help to all but pitfalls exist with our young people and parents should know  what to look for.
• Home Fire Safety--More ways to protect the home.  Smoke detectors, safety ladders and how to deal with smoke and fire are just a few examples.   
• First Aid Courses--Basic First Aid techniques are vital to all of us and could help save lives.

As your County Commissioner, I will work to provide the needed resources to insure that these agencies can do their job – that is to protect the citizens of Person County from crime, fear and lost of property and/or life.
